io9 | The creators of Doctor Who were a scandal

When the show came to shoot its first pilot, it was basically a disaster — nothing went right technically, and also the performances were pretty terrible. William Hartnell’s Doctor was intensely unpleasant and kind of scary, and his granddaughter Susan was cold and exaggeratedly alien…After the pilot was shot, [Sydney] Newman took [producer Verity] Lambert and [director Waris] Hussein out to dinner and said that by rights, he should fire them both — but instead, he was going to give them a second chance at filming the thing.

Interesting article for those of you Doctor Who fans following me (bless thy children, I now understand the intensity of your fandom).
This is probably blasphemous to admit in the Whovian universe, but I am NOT, repeat NOT, that much of a Matt Smith fan. Then again, I’m only halfway through season 5 of the new Doctor Who series, but still! David Tennant and his seemingly endless supply of silly facial expressions made me swoon with this severe aching for his presence in my life…What? Point being, he simply cannot be replaced. Ever. Tennant fan, tried and true, always and forever, etc.
I know what you’re thinking. Yeah, so, it took me like two years after watching the first season to finally catch up on the series. What of it, huh?
